McCain Receives Plum Endorsements From Four Former U.S. Secretaries of State

The official McCain campaign announced on Tuesday, that the Senator had received a plum endorsement from four former U.S. Secretaries of State: Henry Kissinger, General Alexander Haig, Lawrence Eagleburger, and George Shultz.

At a time when foreign policy and the Iraq war are dominating political discourse, the endorsements from so many Republican elder statesmen - all members of the permanent, bipartisan foreign-policy establishment in Washington - is an enormous coup for the McCain campaign.  Coming from now-apolitical figures who are above partisanship, the endorsements are a commanding advantage for McCain’s case that he alone is the best Republican to occupy the Oval Office come January 2009.
