Still more on McCain’s Calif. $$$ fundraising tour - this stop, Modesto; one county sheriff describes him as “a very good listener”
Senator McCain continued his barnstorming fundraising tour through the Golden State, with a stop in Modesto on Monday, followed by, according to the article from the Merced Sun-Star-
“McCain’s California trip was scheduled to raise money in advance of the second-quarter fundraising deadline at the end of June.
He had fundraisers in Sonoma and Vacaville on Sunday; Modesto, Sacramento and Atherton on Monday.
Three more fundraisers were scheduled today in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Newport Beach.”
It wasn’t all just about raking in cash, though. For the story’s lead, the author quoted one sheriff at length on McCain’s session with some California county sheriffs on the same trip:
“MODESTO — Whatever else you know, or think you know, about Arizona Sen. John McCain, know this: The man who would be president of the United States is a good listener.
And that’s a very important trait, said Merced County Sheriff Mark Pazin, especially in a region accustomed to being ignored when it comes to presidential politics.
“It was refreshing to finally be invited to the table to discuss some substantive issues,” Pazin said. “He took time to reach out to local sheriffs.
“It was a great opportunity to sit down and talk with an individual who actually has the influence to make changes in our daily lives.”
“(But) mostly, he’s a very good listener.”
