NPR’s 6-minute-plus interview w/ Politico’s Mike Allen available online - “McCain continues to lag behind in fundraising”

The Politico’s Mike Allen was interviewed by Michele Norris on National Public Radio (NPR) to discuss the current perceptions about the McCain campaign.  NPR has made the interview - which lasts a little over six minutes - available on its web site - the links are below.

In general, Allen’s thesis (with which The Tower concurs):

Washington/Inside the Beltway believes that the McCain campaign is struggling with many problems, such as less-than-expected fundraising numbers, McCain’s embrace of the war in Iraq and immigration reform, Fred Thompson, and the like, and that the campaign gravely fears that DC might be writing it off, due to these problems.

However, Allen does note, in fairness, that John F. Kerry’s 2004 campaign was inaccurately written off as being dead in the autumn of 2003, and he roared back to capture the Democratic nomination very easily.

The Tower would strongly recommend that you listen to the entire interview, as Allen is very articulate and makes well-reasoned and researched assertions (as is also evident in his Politico articles).

You can listen to the six-minute-plus interview by going to NPR’s web site on this page, which will connect you with the appropriate software.

Many of these themes are echoed in Allen’s Politico article on June 12 - “McCain camp enters campaign ‘dog days’ “ - which can be found here, and the contents of which The Tower will be discussing in a future post.
