“Optimism Run Amok” - The State’s Aaron Gould Sheinin provides valuable details about McCain campaign in S.C.

On Saturday, July 21, Aaron Gould Sheinin of The State.com provided some valuable details regarding the McCain campaign in South Carolina.  The information was placed in context with the new-look, leaner McCain operation.  Here are excerpts from the article, which appears in the media outlet providing comprehensive information, about the South Carolina primary:

Call it spin control. Call it optimism run amok. Just don’t tell Trey Walker that John McCain’s 2008 presidential campaign is finished.

McCain, the former favorite to win the S.C. primary and the GOP presidential nomination is trying to regroup and rebound from a horrific month that saw his campaign strapped for cash and the exit of almost all of his senior national staff. After a round of layoffs and resignations, his South Carolina team is down to six paid employees from close to 20…

“The process became the message,” Walker acknowledged. “Instead of the John McCain story, winning the war on terror or cutting pork-barrel spending in Washington, the process became the message.

“Now, he’s liberated.”…
