MSNBC’s First Read: Former NJ Gov. Tom Kean (co-chair of 9/11 Commission) to endorse McCain Monday; McCain “Likely” to Spend Thanksgiving in Iraq
On Sunday evening, November 18, MSNBC’s First Read reported that widely respected elder statesman Tom Kean, Sr. - a former two-term GOP governor of New Jersey in the 1980s, and the Republican co-chair of the 9/11 Commission - will formally endorse Senator McCain, at Logan Airport in Boston on Monday afternoon.
The Kean endorsement is a considerable boon to McCain, underscoring his message that he is the strongest candidate - in either party - on national security issues. In addition, Kean is one of the most prominent and popular Northeastern moderates in the Republican Party (and as such, would have been likely to sign up with Rudy). Of course, the endorsement won’t help McCain in the Feb. 5 New Jersey primary - as Rudy has an invincible lead over the rest of the field.
In addition, the same post notes that Senator McCain will “likely” be returning to Iraq, for Thanksgiving. The post by MSNBC:
